On March 12, 2008, the company received a European patent for its novel method of placing a non-sterile motor into the sterile power tool. President of BioAccess, Robert Chapolini, MD stated, "This patent is extremely important to the company. It protects the enabling technology of our Small Bone Tool surgical drill. This technology is also applicable to other medical devices where it is desirable to enclose a non-sterile device into a sterile enclosure."
